Amendments to Polish energy bill will knock 0.4 portion point off CPI in 2nd half, states minister

Modifications to legislation on Poland's power price cap for homes will decrease inflation by 0.4 portion point in the 2nd half of 2024, the finance minister told state news company PAP on Friday.

Earlier this month the lower house of parliament approved legislation that would imply the optimum power price for Polish homes will rise to 500 zlotys ($ 127.40) per megawatt-hour ( MWh) for the 2nd half of 2024, from 412 zlotys per MWh presently.

Nevertheless, under modifications proposed by the upper house of parliament and accepted by the lower home on Thursday, homes will be exempt from capability fees, which are charges that aid spend for power plants to keep capability on standby.

The modifications to the draft law on energy consumer guards adopted yesterday will minimize CPI inflation in Poland in the second half of 2024 by around 0.4 portion points, Finance Minister Andrzej Domanski told PAP.

Poland's inflation rate stood at 2.4% on a year-on-year basis in April, but economic experts anticipate it to rise in the 2nd half of the year generally due to federal government assistance for households battling with inflation being phased out.
