If nuclear plant will be prepared by 2033 amidst delays, Poland evaluates

Poland is examining if its Nuclear power plant can be built by 2033 in the middle of hold-ups the project suffered under the previous government that lost power in Oct. 15 elections, environment minister stated on Tuesday.

We are examining whether it is possible to provide by 2033, there are numerous doubts about it, we currently have further hold-ups and they have not taken place in the last 2 months, Paulina Hennig-Kloska informed radio RMF FM.

The new cabinet, in power since Dec. 13, validated that Poland needs nuclear power to cut coal from the mix and sealed the location of the plant, however said it would examine the project begun by the former administration.

The government of Law and Justice (PiS) chose Westinghouse Electric to develop the plant on the Baltic coast, but the funding design to build it has not been decided, while an ecological license for the plant was released in 2023 rather of 2022.

Hennig-Kloska likewise said the government is now negotiating with the European Commission a monetary system that would support the project.
