Slovak government seeks plan for brand-new nuclear power plant by October

The Slovak government has tasked its economy and financing ministers to prepare a plan for a new nuclear reactor by the end of October, after consenting to back the task, the government workplace said.

The ministries would present a prepare for an as much as 1,200 megawatt plant, including a selection process for a supplier as well as timing and financing of the project.

The brand-new plant would be developed at the website of the existing nuclear reactor at Jaslovske Bohunice.

Prime Minister Robert Fico stated on Monday it would be fully state-owned, unlike the country's existing two nuclear plants at Bohunice and Mochovce, which are operated by partially state-owned Slovenske Elektrarne.

Economy Minister Denisa Sakova has stated the provider of the brand-new unit would be selected in a tender, with Russia's Rosatom not allowed to complete. She stated she expected French, U.S., or Korean companies as prospective bidders to build the plant.
