Con Edison, NGV propose offshore wind job for New Jersey

Con Edison Transmission and National Grid Ventures submitted a strategy to carry overseas wind power to New Jersey's electrical grid as the state aims to fulfill eco-friendly energy objectives, according to a news release on Thursday.

If awarded, the 'Garden State Energy Course' proposal includes constructing transmission infrastructure that would be operational by early 2029 and provide about 6 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind power, Con Edison said.

This job is foundational to assisting New Jersey reach its objective of 11 GW of offshore wind by 2040, it said.

Previously today, California's grid operator suggested billions of dollars of new transmission projects to carry more electrical energy from overseas wind turbines as policymakers and regulators around the country and the world boost green energy.

The New Jersey proposition's point of landfall would be at the Sea Girt National Guard Training Center, providing power to the Howell Township-based Larrabee Tri-Collector Station.

Given that the job will be underground, the wires will be protected from severe weather events like storms that might trigger disturbances for consumers, according to Con Edison.

Pre-build infrastructure, used to lower the need to independently build for each task, will house the cable televisions carrying the power created by 4 wind projects to the grid under the strategy.
