Polish properties ministry reported to be working on coal mines spin-off

Poland's ministry of state assets is working on separating the country's coal assets from its statecontrolled energies, Parkiet paper reported on Thursday, as the government takes a look at alternatives for the two sectors.

Polish energy shares fell sharply in Warsaw on Wednesday after Market Minister Marzena Czarnecka stated that rather of spinning off coal mines they must be linked to energies.

Czarnecka's ministry is in charge of mining, which is under pressure from increasing expenses and enormous coal surpluses, while the state possessions ministry supervises state-controlled energies.

The ministry of state properties is analysing a gradual but indisputable separation of coal properties from energy utilities, Parkiet pointed out the ministry as stating.

Fitch Rankings said last month that Poland's state utilities threat credit rankings downgrades unless it comes up with an alternative to the previous federal government's plan to allow them to spin-off coal properties.

Although Poland's new government has shelved the strategy to spin-off state-owned energies' coal-fired power plants and bundle them into a brand-new state-owned company it has yet to reveal an option.

Last week, Poland's biggest utility PGE called for a fast decision by the federal government.

PGE shares were up 3.7% as of 0744 GMT.
